We ’re getting ready for a blizzard ! We do n’t have them very often here in the Ozarks , so it ’s an consequence . momma and Dad are scurrying around , making certain we have everything we need . That ’s important because once it starts to ice and snow , we ’re stick by at family .

See , here in the Ozarks , road are slanted to allow for water run - off in the summer , when flooding is a unwashed event . But it ’s nearly unacceptable to drive on slippery , slanted roads without slipping to the downward-sloping side . Our road do n’t have shoulders and sometimes the downhill side plunges path , right smart down into a vacuous or ravine . Even an inch or two of snow makes driving hazardous where we know .

So Mom and Dad keep extra feed on hand for everyone , including themselves , for exigency , even minuscule ones like blizzards . mamma write an clause about emergency preparedness that you could read in theJanuary / February 2011 issue ofHobby Farms , and Carol Ekarius also wrote a good article about   farm cataclysm plans . You should check off them out and be prepared , too .

ma put extra bedding in our Port - a - hut . She also hauls out uncontaminating , empty water tubs in case our H2O freeze solid overnight and she ca n’t plain the ice loose to give us tonic , warm water . If that happens , she fills new tubs and institute the frozen ones in the theatre to thaw out . She set them on the heat registers , and when ice thaws loose from their side , she hauls them outside , bung out the frappe , and uses those bath when she waters us again . She always gives us warm ( but not super - hot ! ) water . It taste extra nice when it ’s moth-eaten outside and does n’t freeze up quite as fast .

She also commit dress on the animals who call for them , especially old Maire , the gymnastic horse , who wears a comfy , waterproof blanket , and any babies or crazy animals who might get cool . It ’s significant to keep sister warm but heating plant lamp are dangerous , so I lecture about   Goat Coats and Lammie Jammies in one of my other blog posts . If you have n’t made some yet , now is a secure time to do it !

mummy and Dad check all the gate and doors to make certain they ’re tied or firmly shore capable , so all of us who desire to can hand tax shelter when the storm arrives . They check the weather condition to see which focussing the breaking wind will be from and put up extra tarp for indoor windbreak if they ’re involve .

Another good affair to do before a snowstorm is to move hay and sleep together closer to wherever you ’ll want it , because it ’s no playfulness to lug bales or push a feed cart through howling nothingness and deep snow drift . And make indisputable we have enough hay ! pledge fond water and feed hay , not grain , that ’s what warm up us from the inside out .

P.S.Last week , I promise to tell apart you if the Ivermectin wormer bring around our sheep ’s urge — and it did !
