garden

This is my monthly look at the border as a whole . My object is to put down advance , see what is working , what ’s not , what changes might I want ( or like ) to make . Let ’s take a twirl .

Rear Garden

First the overhead nip , taken by Apollo 11 in 1969 using their secular dilatation tv camera .

The Patio Border – I am still super happy with this border . I would n’t change a thing , except perhaps to speed up the ontogenesis of the asters and ricinus which are taking their time to fill the gap at the back . The only problem with this border is that I am now looking at my other margin and suppose , in comparison , they are not up to scratch .

The Sunny Border – the cotinus is behaving weirdly this year . It was very dull to put out young growth , and when it did has done it variably . Some stem are very long , some very short . If it does n’t buck up its ideas I may take it out . The rest of the border , not too high-risk . The dahlia are doing their thing , or at least some of them are , in maliciousness of slug wrong . I used to have a peck of monarda in this molding , I do n’t know where it has melt to . I should get some more .

The Wisteria Border , incorporating the Eye of Sauron . Hmmmm . The original wisteria edge now looks a routine bedraggled . I have removed most of the one-year poppies , and also some ugly salvia . It is a bit tired , with lots of disruption . I ’m not well-chosen with how it look now , and I do n’t have any practiced size plant to plug the gaps . I have stuffed some cosmos in there but the slugs are experience a plain twenty-four hour period . I will rent it play out this yr , but I am minded to have a re - think , perhaps hit everything but the modest shrubs . Only plant life that I like will go back in . This work very well last year with the Patio Border – I earn it out and replanted . It would also give me an excellent excuse to go crazy in the end of season sales agreement .   The fresh areas of perimeter on the lawn side of the Eye are better , fairly proud of with those .

The Lilac Border . The lilac is make a little second flush . This is another border that could do with a re - think . In a half - hearted endeavour to manage with it I buy some plant . A yarrow and a coreopsis have gone in , which has bring some colour , but the border is still patchy . Very much a employment in progress .

The Shady Border . see a spot bare with the foxglove gone . I have planted more , but I wonder if I necessitate to sow in some more presently to ensure I get tall plant ( the single I ’ve planted are shorter varieties ) . The dogwood is in cahoots with the genus Cotinus , being very dim to re - rise follow the prune , and uneven too . Strange . I have failed to prune the weigela , I must get around to it . I continue to tinker with the underplanting . geranium are first-class fillers , I have a few , but they have never flowered . I question if it is too suspect for them . Perhaps I should move them and feel out .

The Hibiscus Border . This one is seem quite decent but I think can be better . The titular hibiscus is opine about inflorescence , tucked behind the rudbeckia . Only thinking about it , intellect . Would n’t want to rush thing . I think I can amend this border , I ’ll be on the scout for suitable plants . I still need to find something to climb up up that act of treillage .

Finally for the rearward garden , the view from the remainder of the garden look up the sunny border .

The Side Alley

The planters on the shady side are look quite honorable , the hostas are unmunched and the geraniums have recovered from their mid - season chop . The plantation owner on the sunny side are a bit more of a mixed bagful . I surmise vine weevils in one , sure as shooting there are characteristic toothy gaps in leaves . I think I will employ nematodes next twelvemonth , just in case .

Front Garden

The airy scene first . It ’s filling out well , although there is a shortfall of coloring material , to my head .

The Fence Border – the blush wine and clematis planted along here are a mixed travelling bag . One of the clems is a brown shrivel up wreck , I mistrust wilt .   The one-year climbers are begin to gain a footing . The mina lobata in special are doing nicely , they are just start to flower , but the thunbergia is still pretty modest down on the fence .

Finally , the side view from the cause . Like I said , more colouring would be a dependable thing .

I ’ll be back in a calendar month with another Border Patrol .
