Along with Fiona , Jan Billington ( Maddocks Farm Organics ) and Jo and I ( Organic Blooms ) attended the ORFC to fell the British flowers signal flag . We thought we ’d get maybe a twelve people to our talking , timetabled simultaneously , as it was , with that of Elliot Coleman , a lead frame in constitutional farming . So we were surprised to find ourselves with a full house of around 50 people . Fiona chaired the session and get down by devote a chronicle of the slash flower diligence in the UK and its declension , and an outline of its current position . Our audience were surprised to learn that 90 % of the undercut flower and indoor plant , which make up the UK ’s one-year £ 2 billion trade wind in this sector , are import from all over the earth , with much of it being source through the outside vendue in The Netherlands . They were also surprised to find out that our domestic cut flower and indoor plant trade is equal in note value to that of the UK music diligence .

Jo and I peach about Organic Blooms : its lineage , its next plans , and how we run our business as a societal enterprise . We showed images of our nine Accho land site , the flowers we originate ,   and how we function with adults with financial support needs .

Jan then talk about her eatable prime business , Maddocks Farm Organics , which , on four Acre , has over 100 varieties of edible flush , including 1000 roses .

Both our businesses are demonstrate organic by The Soil Association ( SA ) , credentials we are majestic of and passionate about .

Fiona spoke about develop her new 2.5 acre site just outside Bath , again telling her tale of being on a farm and postulate to find her own blank space . Fiona has an aesthetic background and is astonishingly originative , as we all do it from her fabulous calendars .

The session finished with a Q&A sitting -   by this time we were running over , but the shop steward let us to carry on as everyone was savor it so much !

doubt focused mainly on organics :

So many motion , not enough fourth dimension .

The three spokesperson from the SA in the audience take heed with smashing interest and we get up concerns with them about the lack of constituent bloom seeds currently available . Jan is search the option of professional grooming in seed preserve with the SA in the hereafter .

It was an exciting experience to be at the league . We could have said a destiny more as we all love what we do and talk passionately about British flowers . It seemed to be infective as , to quote Sara Venn ,   “ Everyone leaving the room wanted to be a flower farmer ! ”
