Blooms of the North Lot Garden
When we prompt to Hamilton , Ohio , in 1998 , we purchased the adjacent lot to our Second Earl of Guilford , so we call it the North Lot Garden .
The slope above the retaining rampart was covered withwinter creeper(Euonymus fortunei , Zones 5–9 ) and scrub trees that overhung the business firm . We cut down the Tree , and with a mountain of effort we removed the winter creeper .
It is a steepslope , so planting was a challenge . I rely onoakleaf hydrangea(Hydrangea quercifolia , Zones 5–9 ) andcrape myrtleto anchor the expanse , bit by bit filling in with perennials . It is a sunny , south - facing incline that welcomedconeflowers(Echinaceaspecies and hybrid , Zone 4–9 ) , reed grass(Calamagrostis× acutiflora , Zones 5–11 ) , black - eyed Susan(Rudbeckiafulgida , Zones 3–10),Joe Pye weed(Eutrochium purpureum , Zones 4–9 ) , and other Lord’s Day - loving perennial .

I took the Master Gardener course from the Ohio State Extension after retiring in 2011 . I enjoy working on public garden with new friends and learning more about unusual and/or intrepid plants that I can add to my garden .
‘ Brilliance ’ autumn fern(Dryopteriserythrosora‘Brilliance ’ , Zones 5–8 ) andwild ginger(Asarum canadense , Zones 4–6 ) border the path in the shade of the house .
Coneflowers and Joe Pye weed prevail the incline between the oakleaf hydrangea , accented with Stokes ’ aster(Stokesialaevis , Zones 5–9 ) in the foreground and a fewVerbenabonariensis(Zones 7–11 or as an annual ) interspersed .

Reed pasturage anchors the slope among thebee balm(Monardaspp . , Zones 4–8 ) and Shasta daisies(Leucanthemum×superbum , Zones 5–9 ) that always bloom on my birthday . Hummingbirdsare frequent visitors to the bee balm .
Phlox ( Phloxpaniculata , Zones 4–8 ) bloom just above theretaining wall , with French pancake Vinca minor ( Lagerstroemia , Zones 6–11 ) in the desktop .
While this oakleaf hydrangea is turning pink for summer , blue mist(Caryopteris×clandonensis , Zones 5–9 ) , in the background , is not yet blooming .

Joe Pye pot is stand out against the backdrop of shade Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree .
Stokes ’ aster shines out inpurplesplendor .
The phlox almost look fluorescent against the hydrangea blossoms .
