A recent move allows a gardener embrace gardening in a whole new way and produce abundance on a gravel lot
Hi GPODers !
A couple of weeks ago we got to see how Mark Montgelas grows a wonderful assortment of food and blossom in the nor'-east ( Mark ’s Ornamental Vegetable Garden in Vermont ) , and today we get to see how Dawn Fountain does the same in the opposite nook of the US , at her home in Surprise , Arizona . Dawn sent in a beautiful description of her garden experience , her exist beds , and all of the joy she become from this rewarding hobby , so I will let her take it away :
I have been gardening since 1994 . I have always had a small garden — a dyad of plant life — just for something to do with my neighbor .

When I married my husband 18 years ago , he avail ramp up me a ‘ huge ’ garden that give-up the ghost around the whole back wall of our sign . Unfortunately , I became supersensitive to just about everything back there and it scared me off gardening for a while .
In April 2024 , we moved back out to Arizona ( we now live in Surprise , AZ ) and instantly I saw slews of room . The whole back yard , in on-key Arizona style , is ordinarily rocks . My hubby jumped into natural action and built me fire beds . He also put a footling fence around a small orbit so I could have a memorial garden for my grandparent and parents .
NOW I grow herbaceous plant ( basil , rosemary , salvia , thyme , Petroselinum crispum , oregano , stevia ) . My sweet basil plants grow to 5 + base grandiloquent so , with so much — along with the other herb and thing I grow — I have become interested in puddle infused oils and dear . Basil ( or sundry herbed ) vegetable oil is my favorite to cook with . I jazz serving my dinners with freshly made herbed pelf and butter . ALSO infused beloved — rose ( yes , the blossom ) is the best ! ! ! ! My family loves it .

I have a butterfly garden and sunflowers . In there I have lavender – which makes really dear honey too .
Dawn ’s helianthus garden with a matching metal helianthus and a happy dwarf guarding her cheerful blooms .
I even have house plants and my favorite matter to do is to cut roses and flower from my garden and have a mini garden inside .

In my main garden I have Zea mays , cultivated carrot , beets , strawberries , cauliflower , broccoli , tomato ( 2 kinds – they mature 6 ft marvelous ) , St. Basil the Great , mustard viridity , gelt , kale , onions , stevia , cucumbers , parsley , spinach , cilantro , peppers , 3 type of muckle …
I also have a few other plants – blueberry , blackberries , avocado tree diagram , lemon yellow tree diagram , orange Sir Herbert Beerbohm Tree . I just got a planter work up where I will start a leaping flower garden . I love sitting at my dining room table and envision the bees and hummingbirds enjoy the feeders . I also have cilantro and 5 types of roses .
When I go out back to get some immature for dinner – my hubby calls it ‘ shopping ’ . LOL

A cheeseparing look at all those beautiful greens that Dawn rise , including the utterly massive basil plants on the right !
My garden is where I go to be alone , where I am the happiest , and where I get hold my on-key peace .
My grandson bonk coming over and ‘ snack ’ through my garden . He loved the day he came over and he and his sister got to peck out of my garden . She suffer to deplete the carrots she peck . He get to make pickles .

I have already started my source indoors for my bounce garden ( 19 types so far ) and have it score in my planner when it ’s going outside . I have it all design out and I have a chart for when it started , sprouting , going outdoors … My local nursery even does spare socio-economic class and I attend those frequently .
Can you tell I love this ?
