Joel and I have spend the past couple of days on the southern Oregon slide , and it was wonderful ! I had my hope set on finding somechanterelle mushrooms , as they can be quite prolific in the coast range . As we were ride in the south down the sea-coast , we saw a small side route that led into the wood named “ Chanterelle Lane . ” Hmm , it seemed too easy , but we rick onto it anyways . Joel did a little search around and come back with a news report of no chanterelles , but that he found a really coolheaded mushroom that I should fare and check into out anyways . I ’m always down to count at beautiful mushroom , eatable or not ! Turns out it was a lobster mushroom , so we wrick our chantetelle hunt into forage for lobster mushrooms instead .

Foraging for Lobster Mushrooms

Lobster mushrooms are really cool looking , and plain once you hump what they wait like . They are most often found in the fall after the rainwater amount , but in some domain can be found in the summer as well .

This one was peculiarly gorgeous , and I seek to rack my brain for what it could be , as I had never find a lobster mushroom cloud before . When we looked at the other side of it we saw that we were n’t the only ones revel it ’s mantrap .

This slug was slowly feed aside at it , which gave me some hope of its edibility . Then I join the dots in my promontory and actualise what this was … a lobster mushroom cloud !

I almost knew for trusted that ’s what it was , as it ’s a common edible mushroom-shaped cloud in this surface area , but I double checked my ace awing mushroom guidebook , All That the Rain Promises and Moreby David Arora , just to be certain . It turn out that lobster mushrooms are n’t really even mushroom-shaped cloud at all , but parasitic fungi that feed in on other mushrooms and eventually envelop them . Pretty coolheaded , huh ? Nature is awesome !

in any case , that ’s exactly what this was , and thankfully there are no vicious looking - alikes to be disquieted about . And do n’t worry , we leave the mushroom podium for the slug ( although I have little sympathy for them after what they did to my garden earlier this summer ) .

Lobster Mushroom Mac and Cheese

We spent a good portion of our campaign home base deciding how we were going to cook this baby up . Since real lobster mac and cheeseflower is a exceptional discreetness that we both enjoy on uncommon occasions , we settle to go with that !

Searching for mushrooms rarely turn over out as planned , but is often rewarding in other ways . I was felicitous just to find any eatable mushroom cloud at all , even though it was n’t what I was to begin with look for . It was still just as tasty ! Sometimes you do n’t find any mushroom at all , but because you were looking you will still see all sorts of nerveless thing that you would n’t comment otherwise . You may find other edible plants , or you may just see nerveless germ or flowers or even moss that has an interesting design . It really is all about the adventure of being out in the woods and paying attending . The mushrooms that you may or may not find are only an added benefit . So keep your oculus peeled and start forage for lobster mushrooms !
