Bold foliage from warmer times

Today Cherry Ong is take us on the route again to the iconicButchart Gardensin British Columbia . There are many beautiful sights to be seen in these gardens , but today we ’re focusing on some of the tropic plantings . It ’s just the kind of escapism we need as the weather start turning inhuman for most of us !

Butchart is acknowledge for its over - the - top planting , and this show is no exception . Tons of annual and tropic plant make quite the display . The huge parting on the right side of the image areAlocasia‘Sarian ’ , which is sometimes grow as a houseplant when small but really shows off when it gets huge like this in the garden . It ca n’t take freeze temperatures , so it will have to move somewhere ardent for the wintertime .

This combination of a dark - leavedelephant ’s ear(Colocasiaesculenta , Zones 8–10 or as a tender bulb ) and variegatedSwedish ivy(Plectranthusciliatus , annual or houseplant ) makes a high - contrast planting .
