One of the perquisite of being a professional writer is that you get to research the stuff you are writing about . When the editors ofCat Fancymagazineagreed to have me write an clause on move around with African tea for their August 2012 way out , I thought it was a great opportunity to see what it would be like to go encampment with one of my quat .

So , this retiring weekend , I load up a rented RV withmy Corgi , Nigel , andmy cat , Cheddar , and hit the road .

Some sentiment went into deciding which one of my cats would unite me on this adventure . After mulling over the personalities of my cat , Cheddar was the obvious choice . He is the brave and most mellowed of all four of them , and the one most tolerant of change . He is also the one who was most oblivious to Nigel . It turn out he was the right one .

After push nearly 200 geographical mile to get off from Los Angeles , my critter and I spend the weekend in the Ojai Valley , at a bivouac call Wheeler Gorge . Located in the oak tree and chaparral - cover hills above the quaint townsfolk of Ojai , our campsite was aright next to a bubbling creek .

The RV was howling , with a bathroom , stave in , microwave and icebox . The bottom was comfortable and well-to-do to fall at peace in , even after being wake up up by Cheddar in the midriff of the nighttime ; he was walking on my head teacher .

Nigel always savor an junket , although he was not too pleased when the grass alarm system went off while I was cooking on the stove . The pierce beep must have hurt his ears because when I opened the room access to allow brisk air into the RV , he bolt out and guide off . I had to chase him to catch him , something I ’ve never had to do with this very well - cultivate Corgi . Cheddar , on the other bridge player , could n’t have cared less . He just gazed in the focusing of the smoke alarm with wonder . I really considered for a moment that he might be deaf until I remembered that he always comes when I call his name

The weather on our first day was moderately showery , so we spent most of the time cozy in the RV . Cheddar was happy to search every nook and cranny of the cabin , and was only pertain when the smoke came on the first meter . His tail get bouffant and he skulked around for a few minutes until he decided the atmosphere coming from the floor outlet was no bounteous deal .

Our last day in camp dawned bright and sunny , with big puffy clouds floating by in the snappy child’s play . Nigel sunned himself next to the RV while I muse on the sky until it was sentence to head home .

When we got back to the house and I bring Cheddar inside , he acted as if none of this had happened . He walk decently in , past the other Caterpillar , who stared at him in wonder . His pal , Stanley , boo at him a few clock time , point that Cheddar must have smelled like an RV instead of his usual ego , but other than that , it ’s as if he never left .

After this risky venture , I ’ve decided that camping with a cat is a good musical theme , provide you have an RV and a cat who likes adventure . Seems that nothing beats snuggling in the wild with your favorite felid .
