Summer squash are prolific plants , often producing more flowers than the works can support . When this happens , the spare flowers will naturally fall off . The first prime of flowers is usually male , followed a week later by the distaff flowers . Do not be appall when these first flowers fall aside . This is only a problem if most or all of the distaff flowers are lost .

When all flowers are lost , the job is usually a problem of excess rather than want . An excess of fertilizer , moisture , temperature or the inordinate manipulation of insecticides is usually the trouble .

Step 1

do a ground test to determine fertilizer needs . Use a complete low atomic number 7 fertilizer like 5 - 10 - 10 before planting .

Step 2

Distinguish between virile and female flowers . Male flowers lack the gibbousness of the ovary at the base of the blossom . Male flowers devolve after bring on their pollen while female flowers should stay on to produce yield .

Step 3

Look for signs of pollinating insects . efflorescence that are not pollinated will fell along with their diminutive yield . Pollinate by hand if insects are not present by brushing inside a male flower with a paintbrush or cotton swab to gather pollen , then transfer it to the female flower by brushing inside them .

Step 4

Protect squash flowers from high-pitched winds , if possible , and avoid excess moisture . weewee squash in the sunrise as needed .

Step 5

Use a shade fabric during the hottest part of the summer . Blossoms are lost due to extreme heat . In tropic areas , plant life crush in the early bounce and fall .

Squash Blooms But Doesn’t Produce

squash vine and other cucurbits have separate manful and female blossom . distaff bloom develop later , are farther out on the vine and have a small , unexploited fruit at the base of the flower . Only distaff efflorescence can yield fruit ; and in order for the yield to develop rather than drop off , the flower must be successfully pollinated .

Warning

ward off over - fertilization with nitrogen . Too much N encourages the growth of botany to the detriment of prime and fruit .
