How to divide and propagate Bamboo. Do you think I am crazy? Who in their right mind would want more of what most view as an invasive plant?
I would ! I distribute my bamboo as much as I can .
I get laid bamboo and that being articulate I keep it in check by growing it in container only . Some are reasonably large containers .
I even use my bamboo works as a trellis for my sweet peas . They seem to thrive together in the container .

Bamboo is a very useful plant . I cut out sure-enough canes and use them as works supports , to make small treillage and more .
Why Propagate Bamboo?
My bamboo do very well in their containers and they are incessantly sending up fresh shoots . But once they start up to look too crowded or scramble it is sentence to give them some help .
Dividing them help give them more elbow room and invigorate them .
That being said my large containers of bamboo are about 5 days quondam and still doing fine , I have not had to divide them yet .

Mostly I propagate bamboo so I can get more for myself or gift one to a plant have sex champion .
I have lots of friends with only a little deck or patio area where they have theircontainer garden . Bamboo makes a great command spell and provides a lushness that is welcome .

What kind of bamboo do you have?
Truthfully , I do n’t acknowledge . This bamboo was given to me by a acquaintance who has it in her garden and it has run like sick . So they are incessantly digging it up .
One matter I do know is this bamboo is tough .
It dwell outdoors through our snowy , cold wintertime and gives me something green on my back pack of cards when all else is barren .

What time of year do you propagate Bamboo?
I do it when I get time and a helping hand . But it is best to do this in Fall or Winter .
I prefer Fall as it has time to recoup then send up unexampled shoot in Spring . It fill up out much faster and looks lush .
Lets Divide our Bamboo by root division
Remove the bamboo plant from the post . countersink on a flat airfoil .
Decide if you want to divide it in one-half , thirds or quarters . We did half .
What tools do you need for propagating bamboo?
We used a sawzall this sentence but in the past we have used a hack saw .
We decide on just cut this one in half so the partitioning would still be a reasonably well size .
After saw through the ascendant ball pull them apart .

set up away and prepare your pots .
Mix upyour pot soilor use bagged potting dirt . I improve withworm casting , it is a slow release , mild plant food .
Pot up bamboo divisions
Use a excavator to shave off any of the root orb if you need to so the bamboo will fit into the potful . Put some soil into the hatful and place your bamboo partitioning into it .
adjudicate to focus on the root ball as best as you may .
The top of the bamboo should be slightly low than the mouth of the pot .

Fill in with soil . Leave some place at the top so when you water the new bamboo plant life it will catch it and not run off .
Place new plants in their new home
I do this before I water them in so they are not as heavy . I put my new bamboo plants in my Secret Garden . You hear them in mySecret Garden revamp video .
I want to create more concealment along my back fencing and the bamboo will work wondrously for that until I get other things in place .
Once I move them into place I watered them well . The next week I made sure to keep them watered .

They never missed a beat . No yellowing of leaf , no droop from shock . Nothing , just happy bamboo with more way to develop more canes .
I am so beaming I got this done when I did , within the month we got this … .
The bamboo are doing fine and do n’t seem to mind a bite of C .

How to Protect Bamboo in Winter
We do n’t have seriously cold-blooded winters . I live in a Zone 8 but my microclimate is more zone 7 . That being said I do n’t do too much to the bamboo I have in winter to protect it .
I keep them close to the family for added warmheartedness but this particular bamboo seems to be a stalwart variety . These bamboo plant back by the fence will get move closer to the house as soon as we can get to them .
This former snow is melting and I can get them move presently so they will spend the remainder of wintertime in a affectionate topographic point .
