In a Vase On Monday. Fluffy.
Cathy who hosts the meme : ‘ In a vase on Monday ’ has exalt many of us to produce a cutting garden so that we always have plenty of cut efflorescence without spoiling the effect in other parts of the garden . I have turned over one of my evoke veg beds to cut flowers this year and I have enjoy vases full of flowers all summertime . I do n’t miss the genus Brassica that would have been here because asunder from the problem of the ubiquitous pigeons , I detest wipe out moil caterpillers along with my cauliflower .
My vas today are both fluffy . The first has a flower that I have never grown before . It is an one-year knapweed with vast , ointment fluffy heads and straggly hair’s-breadth . It is calledCentuarea americana‘Aloha Blanca ’ .
Centaurea americana‘Aloha Blanca ’

The description in the come catalog was ‘ ivory white ’ but it is more cream and so I used some biscuit - coloured head ofStipa giganteaand downy , cream bunny tails fromPennisetum villosumto accompany it .
Pennisetum villosum has endearing buff coloured heyday and is not suppose to be hardy but I have had mine for years . Pennisetum orientaleis more reliably hardy and has slimly pinkish seedheads in great abundance .

you could getCentaurea americanain pale pink too , it is called ‘ Aloha Rosa ’ , and perhaps I will render it next class . It would attend pretty in a vase withPennisetum orientale . The seed bundle says thatCentaurea americanais beneficial as a dried flower but I am disappointed with the ones I have dried as they have shrivelled and lost the endearing fluffy effect .
The vase is a pretty strait-laced paint glass one .
The 2d vase is a earnest little jugful give to me by lovely Anne who have a go at it about my helplessness for jugs . I have used the fluffy little powder puff of air of a tall growing annualAgeratumhoustonianum‘Blue Horizon ’ .

I love these pulverization blue bloom and I have a tall , shaggy repeated ageratum too , Ageratum corymbosumwhich has the lovely vernacular name , Butterfly Mist . It is slightly tender and has to overwinter in the greenhouse . It would make a good conservatory plant . It grows quite marvellous although here it is overshadow by the marvelous stem ofNicotianamutabilis .

That genus Centaurea is new to me and quite lovely ! Thanks for the morning laugh at the boiled cat in your cauliflowers .
Both vases are great….love the dark flowers against the green vase and oh the downlike white-hot efflorescence with the seed heads are perfect for declension !
Since my success in getting Centaurea ‘ Silver Feathers ’ to bloom this class , I ’ve become more concerned in the total genus . I ’ll in spades look into adding C. americana to my cut garden next year as I love that flossy smell . Ageratum houstonianum is often develop here as a winter annual so I may plant some of those once the weather chill and I pull out my increasingly distressing - looking sunflowers .

The centaurea are strange and center - catch . They give an autumnal look with the grass in the endearing ruffled vase . I once grind on a snail which had been churn and I can still sense the painful sensation now , year later . It was very small but still !
Oh what fabulous fluffiness Chloris . I think that brassicas to cut efflorescence was a good move although the caterpillars may not be best pleased with your decision .
