In a Vase on Monday. Hollyhocks.

really , they are not right althea ; the correct name isxAlcalthea suffrutescens‘Park Allee ’ . But that is n’t a very zingy title .   One of its parents is a Hollyhock , Alcea roseaand the other is    Marsh Mallow , Althaea officinalis . They were bred to be repellent to the dreaded althea rust . They bloom in August and September when average hollyhocks are long function . They grow vainglorious and better every yr and are easy from cuttings . I write about them lastAugust . If I promised you cuttings last year and forgot , please remind me .

Today is a beautiful warm day and they will seat on the table out of doors so that we can revel them over dinner party .

The colour of these flush is unmanageable to describe . Beth Chatto forebode it creamy apricot -pink , but actually , I remember it is more café gold lait , although the insides are pinkish .   The   stamen   are purple and so I foot Lavender , Lavendula angustifolia‘Hidcote Blue ’   and violet- tingedSolanum laxum‘Creche ar Pape ’ to go with them .   A bumble bee hitched a lift on theSolanumand was far too busybodied to fly off even when I was arranging the flowers .

I also usedPennisetum alopecuroides‘Hameln ’ to add a turn of silverish fluff .

To go with the coffee- coloured flowers I used my little brown jug which is made by Pearsons of Chesterfield .

Cathy who hosts the meme ‘ In a Vase on Monday ’ is thinking of the seasonal start of the new shoal year in her   post today .   Because of the   Chesterfield   jugful , my Wiley Post also remind me of   being a pocket-size child and   fear go back to school . My Grandmother always used to take me to Chesterfield to purchase my new schooltime shoe . give thanks goodness that I never have to go near a school again , as a shaver , parent or a teacher . Growing erstwhile has its advantages .

Had not heard of this blossom baffle with Hollyhocks . I stopped growing them because of the rust issue but those are endearing and such a soft silky gloss . I like school and tend to recall of September as the start of the year rather than January because of that ingrain school docket . I in brief taught schoolhouse and will say it was the hardest job I ever had .

I remember admiring this “ hollyhock ” when you posted photos of the flower last year . It ’s option ! I ’ve never watch the plant here ( not unusual in the pillow slip of many plant grown by UK gardener ) but I did just nibble up that adorable Pennisetum .

mythic ! It ’s so soft and warm and welcoming ! bang-up that a bumble bee hitched a drive as you were set up . 🙂

You ’ve beautifully shown the soft and dreamy side of late summertime . I look forward to the daylight , now not so far away , when the word “ back to school ” no longer have the same effect on my mood .
