In a Vase on Monday. Zinnias and Things.
Zinnias are wonderful cut flowers , like sweet peas the more you bring down , the more they thrive and they are so long lasting in a vase . They go on bloom until the first frosts . I start grow them when I see them on other blogs . I do n’t know why I never think of it before . There are so many wonderful varieties that choosing the germ is difficult . I think this one;Zinnia‘Queen Red Lime ’ is antiquey looking and in darkness sophisticated . The spike ofPersicaria amplexicaulisare a perfect lucifer . I thought the downlike seed heads ofPennisetumalopecuroides gowell with them too . This smoke obligingly seeds around so I can have it all over .
Last year I grow a mixed selection which were bright and cheery but I think I prefer single colours . I want to spring up lots more next yr , but which ones to choose ? It would be lovely to hear which varieties other bloggers peculiarly enjoy . I am very taken with the lime green one that my acquaintance , Christina atmyhesperidesgardengrows . That one is definitely on the listing .
I maturate a lot of sage , I love them and they are so easy from cuttings . I have been meaing to do a salvia post but now it is a bit late , some of them are looking past their good . But here is a cheery posy of some of my favourite variety .

This class I grew some from seed that I collected from my favourites . They germinated readily and I was looking forward to some exciting new change . To my surprise every one turn out to be the bright cerise ofSalvia‘Royal Bumble ’ , like the one in the centre of the picture above . Very nice but I do n’t need twenty identical red salvia .
My last vase today containsNasturtium‘Black Velvet ’ . It does n’t see very black to me , more mahogany , but that is what it say on the packet . So that is my three vases today . It is squeamish to have an abundance of flush to pick in late October . Next month might be a bit more challenging once we have had the first frost . Please see what lovely Cathy atramblinginthegardenand the rest of the vase fillers have been up today .

These are fabulous vas … .I wish well my zinnias would grow this profuse and my what a large color on those nasturtium !
Your Queen Red Zinnias look unadulterated with the grasses which are so fluffy and tactile . I ’ve acquire Zinnia mixes but I call up I ’m going to cleave with more pernicious color though perhaps that is going against what Zinnias are all about .
I ’ve come to lie with Zinnias but I ’d be heavily - iron out to key ducky as most of mine do from mixes . There ’s a peach Zinnia I perfectly adore but I ca n’t name – I used it in one of my arrangements last workweek . I ’m also fond to the “ cactus ” diversity , although I have no musical theme why they ’re referred to using that term . They have a somewhat shaggy-coated visual aspect , like the “ cactus ” dahlia .

Oh what striking vases of zinnias Chloris . I wish the regal noblewoman but the mixed all sorts is my favourite of the two . Interesting to hear about the results of your salvia seed sowing . you may have too much of a good thing .
All three vases are adorable but I especially liked the Salvia bouquet . A great plant and favorite of hummingbird , Salvia seems freewheeling and always in blossom from tardy spring through Robert Lee Frost . What ’s not to have sex ?
Wow , I ’m impressed with your immense selection of late October flowers . I ’m considering that ‘ Queen Red Lime ’ zinnia for next class . But the rainbow collection beneath is alluring , too .

Oh , I love those ! I have some cut Zinnias I need to put in an transcription since we ’re get rime this hebdomad . 😦
