I became concerned in houseplant during quarantine and want a monstera in my collection , and that ’s when I falter across a Monstera at a garden store . inquisitively , I wandered over to the plant section , wondering if they had any Monstera there .

What I found was a lowly Monstera , just big enough to fit in my hand , with the whole works standing at about 6 inch ( 15 centimeters ) .

It was placed in such a precarious balance that it looked like it might topple over at any moment . think it would die if allow like that , I decided to buy it on the patch .

subsequently , I spent a few day intensely canvas how to care for a Monstera plant . My inquiry taught me that once the roots start poking out from the bottom of the great deal , repotting it into a more or less larger container helps it grow faster .

When I corrupt my Monstera , I could already see the origin peeking out from the bottom of the pot .

While the full time to repotwas sound out to be between May and October when it gets warmer , I pause for only a moment before repotting it into the garden store pot express in the photo above on March 6th , 2020 .

My Monstera on April 13th, One Month After Repotting

I ’m thrilled that a long - wait new leaf has appeared ! I ’m allay to see it ’s growing , even after repotting it out of season .

The leaf that was initially all curled up has slowly begin to blossom out . It ’s slightly bigger than the old parting , shiny , and incredibly cute !

Monstera Growth Rate: As of 21 May 2025 (10 Months)

Three more calendar month have pass , and the leave-taking have multiply . Since it ’s January , no new leave are germinate , but I ’m still happy to see it looking sizeable .

And look , there ’s a 2d Monstera hiding in the back ! ( laughs ) I was so proud of with how quickly the Monstera shoot new shoots and grew that I end up buying a 2nd one in the spring .

In the winter , emergence slows down , and it does n’t take up weewee as apace . So , I check that to water it liberally once the control surface becomes wry .

In the summertime , I watered it when the   potting mix airfoil 1 - 2 inch feel slightly wry inserting my digit into the soil which is a very effective way to approximate moisture horizontal surface in soil .

Another tip I ’ve notice with watering the Monstera is that if the edges of the leaves look a minute weak and start to droop , it mean the plant needs piddle .

When there ’s enough water , the edges of the leaves are firm and uncoiled . If they ’re not flag like the surface area in the black roundabout ( ↑ ) , the industrial plant has enough water .

But if they start to droop ( ↑like this in carmine roach ) , it means the plant will demand more water soon .

When the foliage really take up to swag from the pith , the plant needs more water .

If you ca n’t judge by the surface of the soil , please look at the leafage and decide the watering timing based on their condition .

Monstera Growth Record: As of 18 February 2025 (1 Year and 10 Months)

After safely overcoming some challenges , my Monstera flora had a growth spurt in the summer of 2018 . expect at how big and thick the base has become !

At this full stop , I ’m feeling a bit more relaxed about it . I ’m coming up on a full 2 years of raising it .

With the experience I ’ve gained , I ’ve accumulated a circumstances of knowledge , and I venture that ’s pass on me a bit of confidence , huh ?

The leaves are now approaching a whopping 20 inch ( 50 centimeters ) in diameter !

Comparing that to how it all fit in the palm of my hired hand 2 year ago , the sizing is quite astonishing .

Whenever my pal , who survive far away , amount to jaw , she ’s always surprised at how much the Monstera has grown since the last time he check it .

With it growing this big , I ’m trusted that it ’s the “ Deliciosa ” variety that I wanted .

Monstera Growth Record: As of 14 May 2025 (3 Years and 9 Months)

It ’s grown so much!It ’s truly inhabit up to its name by being as freehanded as a monstrosity ! ( There seems to be a hypothesis that the name “ Monstera ” comes from its behemoth - similar coming into court . )

The leaves now have not only slits but also stack of holes in them , and it has become the ideal Monstera that I always desire .

Then , half a yearafter surviving the winter , it faced a crisis where I thought it might die .

During the wintertime , it seemed healthy without needing much piss , so I bear on that room even as it warm up in the spring . That turned out to be why it began to wilt and looked so pitiful .

I ’ve detail that experience in another article here .

Purchasing a Monstera

If you purchase a Monstera that ’s moderately big like this , you’re able to enjoy large leaves and carve up right from the start , and you in all probability wo n’t need to re - pot it immediately . ( However , if the roots are sticking out from the bottom of the pot and it ’s not absorbing water well , re - potting will be necessary . )

Since it might only be label as “ Monstera , ” it ’s hard todetermine if the small-scale ones are Deliciosa or not .

If you utterly want a plant that will originate large , the ones mentioned above are labeled as Deliciosa , so they should be a sure bet !

Key Takeaways

Over the past 3 and a half yr , I ’ve been nurture my Monstera , paying attention to sealed aspect along the way .
