The Sir Frederick Handley Page of home magazine often show impeccably tidy abode , attractively arranged with no signs of the daily pandemonium that result . Though this can be inspiring , it can also cause a twinge of invidia when compare to the land of our own home . If it ’s any comforter , those dishes on the counter and shoe kicked around the level that make your home feeling lived in are like to what you ’ll find inmusician Sheryl Crow’shome .
“ The matter that get our home feel like home is that there ’s always a sure amount of kid hooey around … We actually live here , ” she says . Crow appreciates that some day that “ mess ” wo n’t be there because her boys will be grown . “ I ’m gon na miss seeing those shoe by the couch or the football on the entry table . ”

The House Rules
With the espousal of a menage that looks lived in ( because it is ! ) there are still several house formula that Sheryl and her male child watch . In fact , you ’ll find them posted . “ I ’m humiliated to say that we do have a hand - written list [ of formula ] that the boys and I put together , ” Crow says . “ I just always want the boys to remember that not only are we kin , we ’re roomy . ” The rules are passably straightforward :

She loves having big get togethers on the back porch when weather allows , but need everyone to simply enjoy the time together . The Dogs
Crow has two dogs , a mutt named Jewels and a Gallic English bulldog named Buster . Wondering how they got those names ? “ When the boy were little and we adopted [ Jewels ] , they decided that her little spots appear like gem , so that ’s how we come up with that . And Buster just looks like a Buster . He also has a moniker … Muscles McGee , ” Crow says .
I have one guitar that even though there are a ton of guitar in [ the studio ] , I have one that I find out is like an quondam flaccid mantle for me .
Workspaces
There are two areas of the home where Crow does most of her creative body of work , a pianoforte elbow room and an above - barn studio apartment . mighty now she is using the forte-piano way as she works on writing a show for herself that she hop-skip will be a one - woman show . “ As shortly as I miss my kids off I get my computing equipment out , and while it ’s quiet I do some writing and maybe some performing , ” she says .

It is kind of my go - to , so generally wherever I ’m exercise , that guitar is with me . ”

Since her boy were little , Crow has put theirart on the wall . She shares that one object lesson to come from that drill is celebrate thing being imperfect . “ Whatever the Kyd reckon perfect look like , it ’s the imperfections that make thing unique and disingenuous , ” she says . It ’s also teaching them to accept compliments . “ It ’s hard sometimes to go for a compliment so it ’s really fun to have stuff up on the walls and for my child to hear , “ That ’s so cool ! ” and to have to learn that . ”
Shoes On or Off?
bragging does n’t care either elbow room , in part because she plan to update the house some day . “ I tell people all the fourth dimension , when my kid graduate I ’m gon na just gut the whole house … And we have bounder , so there ’s not a nifty contestation for hoi polloi taking off their shoes because I ’m certainly not going to have heel wear slippers . ”
