Never be afraid to try rooting thing out of season .   Like this clematis … see the gullible sprout in the corner ?

That is a cutting that is starting to grow .   I did a post on pruning a clematis last Fall … Prune Clematis for Top to Bottom Bloom , and even though it was the awry clock time of year to root cuttings I figured it would n’t hurt to taste since I had a ton on hired man from the pruning .

I cut the clematis trimming into modest lengths , dipped them inrooting hormone , poke them in compost in a lowly spate , and permit them just model in the greenhouse over winter .   Though I only show one in the photo , most all of the cuttings I planted are render growth .   I did n’t even have a covert on them to retain moisture .
