First you start with a nice healthy plant . I overwinter some of mine in my studio and upper bedchamber window . Take a cutting from a fresh green offset just below a leafage lymph node . Cut with something clean and very sharp , like a razor or xacto tongue . See … .. refreshful green branch . Old crusty ramification … this is not what you require .. check that you have some potting mix quick to adulterate up your freshly washed and fix picayune pots with . My commixture is half potting territory ( Ace brand ) and perlite .

These are 3 inch gage , you’re able to use smaller or even theJiffy pelletswork well . These pots have all been washed in raging soapy water with a touch of bleach , then rinsed well and atmosphere dry . The cutting should be about 4 or 5 inches long and leave two healthy leaves on them . When you put the stem into the grime ensure two folio nodes are cover by the soil commixture . With geraniums I do not use a cloning or root medium but other plants do root well for me when I do , here is therooting medium . weewee well and press the grunge firmly around the cut . I love my multiplication trays with lids . They form wonderfully for me and are less of a pain in the ass that the plastic cup of tea method acting . Find some here onAmazonor Park Seed has a lovely one that is very durable and deserving the cost if you are going to diffuse often .
Put a clear lid on your tray to maintain wet and keep at a restrained temperature and in hopeful light . I have mine in the glasshouse but you could put them under lights in the house as well .
you may use clear credit card sheeting you get in a ringlet at the home plate store , just tent it up so it up with something so the charge card does not refer the cuttings directly . It does not need to fit snuggery , you do require some air circulation .

Here is my petunia film editing done the same way under their clear bean cap under produce lights in my dining elbow room .
And Voila’ … .a few weeks later you have beginning !
I sleep with when that happens . Sweet achiever . you may now pot them up into a large pot to fill out more or put them in whatever container you want to see bright glad flowers . I would wait to plant them in the garden until they were a bit larger but if you wish you could put them right in your boundary line and beds now . Just protect from slug and escargot , I practice abait .

Never be afraid to try rooting thing out of season . Like this clematis … see the gullible sprout in the corner ?
That is a cutting that is starting to grow . I did a post on pruning a clematis last Fall … Prune Clematis for Top to Bottom Bloom , and even though it was the awry clock time of year to root cuttings I figured it would n’t hurt to taste since I had a ton on hired man from the pruning .
I cut the clematis trimming into modest lengths , dipped them inrooting hormone , poke them in compost in a lowly spate , and permit them just model in the greenhouse over winter . Though I only show one in the photo , most all of the cuttings I planted are render growth . I did n’t even have a covert on them to retain moisture .

The lesson of the tarradiddle , even though it may not be the “ best ” time of twelvemonth to do something for the garden it wo n’t offend to give it a effort , you may be surprise .
