vegetable
I ’m an indifferent grower of veg , favour the cosmetic side of thing , but I struggle on manfully . In fact , things have gone quite well since the update a calendar month ago . Some dependable sunshine and even some rain has worked just as well for the veg as it has for the rest of the garden . I ’ve sown the ship’s boat veg too , and even my curse is proving tractable this yr .
This is the game plan for the first half of the mature season . Blue square are either plant out or sown direct , other colours are not yet in the ground . The risk of frost is now depleted enough to imbed out the tender veg , this weekend I recollect , just leaving the final successional sowings of salad and carrots .

Onions – I ’m pleased with these ‘ sturon ’ curing , a hurried replacement for ejaculate loser . All 72 are growing on well .
The Allium sativum is also doing well , these should be quick to harvest in just a couple of months , less perhaps .
Runner beans – I ’m growing ‘ moonshine ’ this twelvemonth . They are growing powerfully and do well on my piece of primer . I sow 5 or 6 to a pot . I ’ll secernate and plant them out this weekend .

Green noodle ‘ risque lake ’ . A climber , I have the canes ready for them . These are in origin - trainers which seem to work well . I ’ve sow some more , I ’m honestly not sure why …
Squash ‘ crown prince ’ . I ’ve not farm these before . I gather they are quite vigorous . I have reserved half a raise bed for them . I may only meet two plants in here , and even then I ’ll have to gyrate the stem around . I think I ’ll permit them maturate on a but before putting them out .
crush ‘ uchiki kuri ’ . I was n’t going to grow these again this year but succumbed to temptation . I ’m not certain where I ’m going to put them …

Courgette ‘ ambassador ’ . To restrain the possibility of glut conditions I will only set two out . I ’ll still have too many courgettes .
cultivated carrot . Actual , good to god seedling . As unconstipated proofreader may recall , I am hopeless at carrot . I sowed these verbatim a few workweek ago , 16 station per square . Last year none of my lineal sowings did anything – it was either too frigid or too hot . I require to slim them out to just one seedling per station . I ’ll just crop them off . I have since inseminate another two squares of carrots , all ‘ nantes 5 ’ , and will sow in another two squares in a span of weeks .
Salad leaves , various . These are almost quick to harvest . In fact , looking at them again , I think I could take some of the outer leave now . Always a winner , I ’ve got two further deal on the go in the greenhouse .

Beetroot ‘ bull blood ’ and ‘ boltardy ’ . These are almost ready to go out I think . They are multi - sown , I ’ll imbed them in groups and can harvest base as needed .
pea – ‘ kelvedon admiration ’ and ‘ oregon sugar fuel pod ’ The first batch is doing well , the smaller industrial plant are the second batch , planted just before I took this photo . I am hop for a good(for which read worthwhile ) harvest this year .
white potato – earlies ‘ red duke of york ’ and ‘ Queen City ’ . plant one per pot , they are all up and growing well . I had some wool over them for a couple of nights to protect from hoarfrost but no hurt done . There is no sign of the mains ( ‘ desiree ’ ) yet but they were plant deeper , in full sacks .

chilly – these are doing well in the heated and well-lighted propagator , some are almost too big . It will presently be time to move them to the greenhouse . I almost belt down the chillies , forgetting to water them for about two weeks . All bar one recovered once water , a close call .
Tomatoes – I had to move the Uncle Tom back onto their windowsill perch , they grew too big for the disseminator . They can go into the greenhouse very soon , once I ’ve cleared the outer space for them !
Sweet pea plant – well , these are very pathetic compared to last year . I have tie them in to the canes , but I am painfully entice to rip them out and plant something more useful . Perhaps that ’s why I sowed the extra beans and the uchiki kuri ! I hesitate only because a handful are showing mark of putting on beefy growth .

I have made a start on the plot plan for the 2nd half of the year but am not done yet .
That ’s the state of the veg nation in my picayune plot . How are you getting on ?
I ’ll be back in a month or so with another update .
