By way of something to do over the winter , I have been introducing some much required subject area into my vegetable plan for 2018 . I am happy with the plotlayoutwhich I hope now suffer the most out of my three raised bed . There ’s a lot going on in those plan , and there ’s a clear-cut possible action I ’ll lose the plot ( pun very much intended ) . I could pretermit sowings , bury successional plantings , not have plants quick to go out as soon as space is available . I do n’t need to rely on me remembering what to do when , nor do I desire to trust only on the guidance on the seed packet which is typically vague on timings . To get the best this , I have constructed a spreadsheet , as one does . For each location in the plot , I have two rows , one for pre - transplant action in the greenhouse , one for sowing or plant out in the plot of land . In this I have recorded for the whole twelvemonth what should need sowing or planting , and where , to make my 2018 plot architectural plan a reality .
This scene present the sowing plan for April and May , just for the first of three bed . In some workweek there ’s a lot going on , which is exactly why I put this together – there ’s no room I ’d just remember to do all this !
I ’ve given each of these seed / planting activity a specific formatting . the naughty boxes with a red synopsis , which permit me to filter out on that formatting . This means that for a given week , I can filter to just show what want sowing or planting . For instance , for the workweek stop 13th May , I have the following to do :
In the 4th square on Bed 1 ( location 1.4 ) , I should be sowing spring oninons , and to ensure I have bean plants to put in localisation 2.3 , I should be sowing beans in the glasshouse . You get the idea , hopefully . I plan to expend this spreadsheet like this each week to generate part of my weekend to - do list . My ultimate goal is never to have bare , unproductive ground on the vegetable patch .
The weather may have other idea , and of grade crop might not be done harvest when this plan says I should be replacing them . I will take to adjust for all that , not to mention my availability as life gets in the way . I also hope that this kind of tool will become less necessary as I get more experient as a veg raiser and I can bank more on instinct .
